Great British Insulation Scheme is here
Introducing the Great British Insulation Scheme, a new government initiative designed to enhance energy efficiency and cost savings for homeowners. Running from summer until March 2026, this scheme, previously known as ECO+, will allocate £1 billion to assist approximately 300,000 households across the country in installing new home insulation.
Through this program, consumers can expect to save an estimated £300 to £400 annually on their energy bills. Moreover, the scheme aims to prioritize support for individuals with low incomes, as well as extend assistance to a broader range of households residing in the least energy-efficient homes (those with an Energy Performance Certificate rating of D or below) and in lower Council Tax bands (A-D in England and A-E in Scotland and Wales).
By increasing access to financial aid, especially for those struggling with their bills, more individuals than ever will have the opportunity to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. This, in turn, will significantly reduce household energy consumption and heating costs.
The functioning of the scheme revolves around compelling energy suppliers to assist customers in reducing their heating bills by facilitating the installation of energy-efficient measures like loft and cavity wall insulation. Depending on the specific measure and property considerations, the scheme may cover the entire cost or require a partial contribution from homeowners.
Once the scheme is launched, households can easily check their eligibility on GOV.UK or through participating energy suppliers and local authorities. Upon confirmation of eligibility, homeowners will be contacted to arrange a comprehensive home survey and coordinate the installation process.
